Re: "Science Falls on Deaf Western Ears," Jan. 21

To the Editor:

Your story concerning the plight of "Let's Talk Science" at Western includes an unfortunate misunderstanding of the comments I made to your reporter.

The "Let's Talk Science" approached four Western faculties (science, health science, engineering and medicine and dentistry) for support of the Partnership Program. The "Let's Talk Science" program [did not] approach departments in the faculty of science. What "Let's Talk Science" sought was a commitment of $5,000 from each faculty (a total of $20,000) and it was the faculties that were unable to add funding for the "Let's Talk Science Partnership Program" to their already stretched budgets. Science, health science, engineering and medicine and dentistry were, and are, totally supportive of the "Let's Talk Science" program.

We suggested that the "Let's Talk Science Partnership Program" present their case for funding to the central administration. We indicated that we support such an initiative and remain ready to do so.

All four faculties strongly support the aims of the "Let's Talk Science" program.
