Best male athlete of all time
Ray Takahashi

If any one man represents the dominant nature of Western athletics, it's current Mustangs wrestling coach Ray Takahashi. Takahashi's career at Western has spanned three decades and left an indelible impression. The pint-sized wrestler won four Ontario University Athletics individual gold medals and four Canadian Interuniversity Sports individual golds at the 52 kilogram weight class from 1979-1982. Furthermore, Takahashi competed in three Olympic Games, including the 1976 games in Montreal, the 1980 games in Moscow and 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. His biggest triumph on the Olympic level an outstanding fourth place finish at the '84 games. As a result of his exemplary performance during the 1982 university wrestling schedule, Takahashi was named the recipient of the Dr. Claude Brown Trophy, given to Western's best male athlete. His relentless dedication to his sport is a true indication of the love he has for competition and teaching. Now Takahashi can add another feather to his cap - he is The Gazette's choice for the best male athlete in Western history
