Local hooligans enjoy stupidity
This past weekend saw crime occur at the same rate as St. Patrick's Day debauchery.
According to Const. Wendy McGowan of the University Police Department, an instance of fraud with a stolen Western One card was reported last Tuesday. The card was used at various vending and goods outlets, and resulted in a $150 loss.
A 12-hour driving suspension was issued the following day to a male on Richmond Street., she explained. "The vehicle was stopped as a result of [erratic] driving behaviour," McGowan said. That same day, another 12-hour suspension was issued to a driver in front of Alumni Hall.
There was an accident on Western Road at approximately 4:20 p.m. on Mar. 13. The parties received minor injuries, and the London Police Department were called as well, McGowan explained.
Last Friday, a vehicle struck the Richmond Gates, she said. "There's damage to the wall the [incident came about as] a result of brakes failing on the vehicle," she explained.
Saturday night, the DJ booth at The Wave suffered a loss. "[There was a] theft of two turn tables," McGowan said. That theft is currently under investigation and no more details were available.
According to Const. Paul Martin, spokesperson for the LPD, there was a brawl in front of The Drink on Friday night. Fifteen to 20 males were involved, and an ambulance was required.
"[A male] was punched in the head with a closed fist and knocked to the ground," Martin said. His friends then jumped in, and someone was kicked in the face, he added.
The following night, five officers were deployed to break up a large disturbance behind a convenience store near The Drink, he said. Officers stood by while the crowd dispersed, Martin said.
