Jimmy and Judy snag top athletic honours

Amateurish poetry aside, Western's Annual Athletic Awards banquet, held on Tuesday night at the Hilton London, was an extremely raucous affair.

The evening was marked by an emotionally charged and apparently "liquidated" audience, most notably the women's lacrosse team (screaming "Bene, Bene," in admiration of coach and Most Valuable Player Anne Benedetti) and the men's and women's soccer teams..


Linus never had a purple Western blanket!

Every year a handful of Western varsity athletes are given the pinnacle accolade a Mustang can receive – the Purple Blanket.

The blanket is handed out to: "Student/Athletes who, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, achieved superior distinction at the Provincial/National level of competition as representatives of Western." At Tuesday night's athletic banquet..

Gretzky a Bush lackey?

EDMONTON (CP) – A sign reading "U$ Lackey" was hung Tuesday on a statue of Wayne Gretzky in protest of the hockey star's recent comments supporting United States President George W. Bush in the war against Iraq.
