CD REVIEW: Blur

Blur
Think Tank
Parlophone

Listen to the opening track "Ambulance": beginning with rubbery synths, a thumping dance rhythm and Damon Albarn's spoken vocals, the track eventually winds up as moody, fuzzy-textured psychedelia.

Perhaps losing guitarist Graham Coxon has forced Blur to contemplate as many new directions as possible – hence, the remarkable Think Tank which pulls off the great trick of combining several sounds into one cohesive album. By the second track, Albarn is already placing a gorgeous melody over a Moroccan orchestra ("Out of Time") and by the third, the guitars are out in full force for the quirky, punk blast of the first single "Crazy Beat." Surprisingly amazing.
