Purple Pipe: Roberto Caballero Jr.

The men's soccer team cleaned up in the Ontario University Athletics championships after finishing third in the regular season. To begin the finals, they knocked the McMaster Marauders out of national contention in their semi-final game last Saturday by a mark of 1-0. After a scoreless regulation and fruitless overtime, the teams met in an intense shoot-out; the Mustangs triumphed by a 4-2 margin.

When it came down to the crunch in the OUA finals against Waterloo, goalieRoberto Caballero Jr. stood tall for the Mustangs, staying focused game-long to help his team bring home gold.

With a goals against average of 0.83, Caballero Jr. was honoured with his third all-star selection in a row. Over the 2003 regular season, the Mustangs goaltender made shutouts a tradition, notching goose eggs against Laurier, Windsor (twice), York and Toronto. Even when the pressure was amplified in playoff action, Caballero Jr. kept his cool en route to a perfect record, notching shutouts against Laurentian, McMaster and Waterloo.
