Outside the gates

Below is what happened in the world of professional sports last week:

The Florida Marlins defeated the Chicago Cubs 9-6 on Wednesday night to advance to the World Series. Steve Bartman, the Cubs fan who got in the way of Moises Alou's attempted catch in game six, was safe if the Cubbies won, but now it's going to take a plane trip to the Antarctic to save his ass.

Vince Carter is getting married. Dr. Ellen Rucker, his former college sweetheart at North Carolina, forgave Vince's inability to defend, his crybaby antics and his addiction to video games, saying "yes" to his $97 million.
