FILE SHARING - BY THE NUMBERS

  • 2.6 billion: the approximate number of songs that are illegally downloaded each month

  • 145 million: the number of CDs the above number would equal if the songs were compiled.

  • 21.4 million: number of albums sold in Canada so far this year - 5 per cent less than recent years before.

  • $10,000: total of highest settlement in a Recording Industry Association of America file sharing/copyright infringement case to date.

  • $2,000: minimum settlement in the RIAA cases to date.

  • 261: current number of individual users being sued by the RIAA for illegal file sharing/copyright infringement.
