Western Idol to crown winner
The final round of the Western Idol singing competition takes place at The Wave tonight. In addition to being crowned Western’s first Idol, the winner will receive a cash prize of $500 donated by The Cottage Tanning Company (where the sun always shines) and also a round trip to Calgary (where there is no sun and no-one really wants to go) donated by Travel Cuts. Five finalists will vie for the coveted title at the finals, which start at 9 p.m..

Sarah, Avril & Nell join forces
Apr. 4 marks this year’s Juno Awards, and nominations will be announced Feb. 11. The Awards will feature an array of Canadian musical talent; Sarah McLachlan, Avril Lavigne and Nelly Furtado will be among the show’s performers.

The Bachelor
adds Canadian flavour

The Bachelor is approaching its fifth installment, offering yet another seemingly ideal man to a plethora of slightly desperate women. The fifth Bachelor Jesse Palmer is offering some star quality, taking time away from his position as the quarterback for the New York Giants. The 25-year-old Palmer seems to embody those standard, appealing characteristics: dirty-blonde locks, a solid six-foot-two stature, an attractive physique and he’s Ottawa-born. Also, he finished the season 60-for-116 for 532 yards passing — OK, actually, this is apparently a far from impressive statistic, rather, it drops Palmer into the category of average joes. However, if you prefer physical features to athletic ability, free up your April schedule — that’s when the filming begins.
