Western Brief

MEN'S BASKETBALL
The men's basketball team recorded their first OUA win over the Royal Military College Paladins 60-52 on Saturday night at Alumni Hall.

On Dec. 27-28, the Mustangs travelled to Ohio to compete at a non-conference tournament at the University of Findlay. In a close match, they fell to Tiffin College (NCAA Division II) 65-55, as well as Ohio Dominican (NCAA Division II) 68-67. Adam Peaker was named a tournament all-star.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
At the Saint Mary's Huskies Holiday Invitational on Jan. 3, the women placed seventh, defeating the Acadia Axewomen 50-41. Western was defeated 49-37 by the Ottawa Gee-Gees as well as 53-52 by host Saint Mary's.

MEN'S HOCKEY
The men's hockey team was busy during the holidays. On Dec. 18, the Mustangs put up a strong fight against the Western Michigan Broncos, but unfortunately fell victim in a 5-3 loss.

At the University of Alberta, Western lost a pair of non-conference games against the Golden Bears, 5-1 and 7-3.

During the Mustangs' own Holiday Classic Tournament on Jan. 3 and 4, Western defeated the Guelph Gryphons 4-3 in the preliminaries, but fell to the Laurier Golden Hawks 3-1.
