Jazzing it up
An eclectic gathering of exceptionally talented musicians, known as the UWO Jazz Ensemble gather twice a week in a practical jazz course to produce melodies that are sultry, funky and catchy. Led by director and jazz guru Andy Scott, the ensemble play a variety of jazz music, including ’50s and ’60s jazz, bebop, as well as contemporary and original selections.

“It’s kind of a big deal that the band sounds this good, seeing as there are no instructional jazz courses at [Western],” says Paul Louth, teaching assistant for the ensemble. “The only time there is jazz [in the faculty] is in this room.” The ensemble will be performing at The Grad Club on Sunday, Mar. 27, and at Talbot Theatre on Wednesday, Mar. 31 at 8 p.m..
