Quick facts about North by Northeast

- NXNE is an annual live music festival and conference held in June in Toronto since 1996. Hundreds of selected bands showcase their talent in downtown venues.

- The conference allows delegates, panelists and bands playing the festival to network and participate in discussions, round tables, keynotes, demo listening, legal clinics and mentor sessions.- The film festival was added in 2001, showing primarily music-related documentaries and videos. This year included films like Glastonbury, Nightclubbing: Live From CBGB’s and Kurt Cobain: About a Son.

- NOW Magazine is a major sponsor of the festival.- NXNE has helped jump start the careers of Billy Talent, Amy Millan, k-Os, Feist, Sam Roberts and hundreds more.

- Montreal’s Handsome Furs is the winner of this year’s $3,000 Galaxie Rising Stars Award of the CBC, an award bestowed on an up-and-coming Canadian talent in partnership with NXNE. NXNE’s past winners include Sylvie (2006), The Ladies and Gentlemen (2005), Raising The Fawn (2004), Matt Mays (2003), Graph Nobel (2002) and BrassMunk (2001).
