Boys Night Out’s fourth and selftitled album is a bold declaration for a band that boasts a dedicated following, sold out shows, and two major label releases.

Fans of BNO will notice right away that it has embraced the mantra “out with the old and in with the new.” The band saw the departure of keyboardist and singer Kara Dupuy, the acquisition of guitarist Andy Lewis and the return of former drummer Ben Arseneau.

The result is a hybrid of the fun and electricity found in the songs of Make Yourself Sick (2003) with the structure of Trainwreck (2005) and an unprecedented maturity and more complete sound.

The culmination of the new sound is heard in “Swift and Unforgiving” and “Fall for the Drinker” with lead singer Connor Lovat- Fraser’s full voice and deep lyrics.

Classic BNO tracks include “The Heirs of Error” and “Reason Ain’t Our Long Suit” with call-back choruses the only screaming on the album and cries of “Rebuild!”

The fine line between musical maturity and growth and mainstream selling-out is noticeable in “Let Me Be Your Swear Word.” This is easy to overlook, however, as BNO overall made good choices for this album as they retained creative authority.
