Most movie stars find it a daunting experience to transition into the musical realm and still be taken seriously. Minnie Driver is no exception.

Following in the footsteps of other celebs-turned-singers including Eddie Murphy, Steven Seagal, and Billy Bob Thornton, Driver has been widely criticized for her songwriting efforts. However, her sophomore album, Seastories, proves these criticisms have been mostly unfounded.

Delicate vocals paired with simple guitar and piano-based melodies create an album that’s easy on the ears.

A particularly pleasing track is album opener “Stars & Satellites.”

Though most of her tracks are too long and lack the necessary dynamics to be catchy enough for Top 40 radio, listeners who enjoy the likes of Norah Jones, KT Tunstall, and Nina Gordon will appreciate Driver’s work.
