In Rainbows by Radiohead

Radiohead’s seventh album received plenty of buzz due to its unorthodox online purchasing options. Fortunately, the album’s content is interesting enough to be worthy of gossip.

With In Rainbows, the tenured British rockers followed a “less is more” approach begun on their last release, Hail to the Thief. While Radiohead’s trademark electronic fusing and quirky time signatures are still present, the band is more toned down than in the past.

“15 Step” leads off the album with a salvo of energy, but the rest of the album has a much more relaxed feel. Tracks like “Reckoner” and “Jigsaw Falling Into Place” mix layered guitar, Phil Selway’s trance-like percussion and vocalist Thom Yorke’s unparalleled falsetto in utopian fashion.

In Rainbows should appeal more to the indie-rock crowd. While the most eccentric fans may be disappointed with a lack of creativity, In Rainbows still has the consuming melody the band is famous for.
