London Fashion Exchange hosts networking party

Showcase of talents with industry pros, models, designers

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Without years of experience and connections, it seems impossible to break into the fashion industry.

The London Fashion Exchange (LFE) is helping to make the impossible possible with its Second Annual Networking Party at Up on Carling, 153 Carling St., this Sunday.

“The event is being held as an opportunity for people to network with others in the fashion industry,” Kristy Barash, co-director of LFE, says.

Created last year by Barash and David Raposo, LFE is a networking website for fashion industry professionals, models, photographers, hair/makeup artists, fashion designers and agencies looking to promote their portfolio. The site also provides up-to-date resources for beginners in the local fashion scene.

The Networking Party will allow LFE members a night to showcase their talents and mingle with industry pros. LFE will also feature a silent auction to raise money for local charities and a fashion show featuring the clothing of five London designers. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Health Foundation. Portfolios from locals will also be on display.

New modeling agency Model Studio Co. will be scouting at the event. The agency’s owner, Anna Norris, scouted for Wilhelmina Models in New York City, and also hosted the popular VH1 series, The Agency.

DeVoG Academy of Hair will also be launching its new makeup line and holding demonstrations throughout the night.

Last year, 200 guests attended the Networking Party. With a larger space and a more diverse fan base, LFE is anticipating a much larger event this time around. This year more local designers will be showcasing their products and more companies will be promoting their services.

Tickets are available online for $10 at, DeVoG Academy of Hair in Galleria Mall and N U Hair and Make Up Sudio on Richmond Street Doors open at 8 p.m. and the fashion show begins at 10 p.m.
