Composed of Erik Rutan (formerly of Morbid Angel) on vocals and guitar, Shaune Kelly also on guitar, Alex Webster on bass and Montreal’s Jade Simonetto behind the drum kit, Hate Eternal releases one hell of an album in memoriam of former bass player Jared Anderson.

Fury & Flames picks up the pace quickly and never looks back. Rutan’s BC Rich sounds beautiful on his solo passages, especially the slow arpeggio sections in “The Funerary March,” “Fury Within” and “Tombeau.”

Webster’s incredible proficiency on bass is invisible on this album; it sounds mostly like a duel between Rutan and Simonetto the entire time. Rutan’s gutturals are also fairly weak, as is his riffing on this album. The production is also a little off, with the drums being way too prominent " drowning out other sounds.

Overall, Fury & Flames is a solid album, very steady and not too extreme. If you like Cannibal Corpse or the like, you’ll enjoy this album from start to finish.
