Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” to be turned into Broadway musical
Producer James L. Nederlander, who recently acquired the rights to Michael Jackson’s legendary music video “Thriller,” is developing it into a musical. Nederlander is the head of the Nederlander Organization that owns nine Broadway theatres and has produced musicals such as Footloose and Guys and Dolls. The play will feature songs from both Thriller and Off the Wall, two of Jackson’s most successful pop albums.

Although Nederlander has released few details about the musical, he has said the plot will involve a love story and Jackson himself will be involved in the creative process.

“The Nederlanders and Michael Jackson represent live theatre and musical excellence, so let the music begin,” Tohme Tohme, Jackson’s spokesperson, said.

The “Thriller” music video " centred around a teenage couple that runs into a pack of zombies " was directed by John Landis and was released in 1983. About 10 times more expensive than other music videos of its time, “Thriller” cost approximately $500,000 to produce. Later videos by Jackson for songs like “Bad” and “Scream” cracked the multi-million dollar mark.
