University Students’ Council presidential candidate Josh Safer won’t be running a flashy campaign to win votes this week. His approach is keeping things simple.

“My campaign concept is ‘If you know me, please [tell] people you know I’m running and let them know what you think about me.’”

Safer said he’s running because he believes democracy demands it.

“It’s another way I could offer to help,” Safer said. “If people want me to take the job, then I’ll be glad to work for the students.

“I’ve never been in the public spotlight [at Western] before.”

Safer earned a degree in mathematics and computer science at the University of Waterloo.

“I’ve spent other people’s money before; while at Waterloo, I was on the board of my faculty’s endowment fund,” Safer said.

Safer outlined his involvement in Western’s media and clubs.

“I certainly see the students’ point of view from many parts of the Western community,” he said.

Safer added he knows people who don’t appreciate the culture of those heavily involved in the USC.

“I’m seeing myself as the option for the typical student " for someone who takes part in different activities.”
