Last week the greatest Headmaster of the greatest school of “Witchcraft and Wizardry” was outed by his maker.

J. K. Rowling, the author of the best-selling Harry Potter series, declared Dumbledore had a homosexual relationship with the rival wizard, Grindelwald.

Rowling revealed the news in a question and answer period while speaking at Carnegie Hall in New York on Friday, Oct. 19.

This news has divided many readers.

“To include something like that in a children’s novel is terrible,” Jody, a social science student who did not give her last name, said.

Mark, a classical studies student who did not give his last name, was decidedly unimpressed. “It was so well hidden within the text that it took the author to out her own character.”

The intentions of the author are being questioned in the face of this new information.

“I hope [Rowling] isn’t doing it to get more publicity,” Carol Tattersall, professor of English, mused. “Does the context of the novel support this, or is [Rowling] just essentializing?”
