There’s a new principal in town at Brescia
After a successful term with its current Principal, Brescia University College has decided to inaugurate a new leader, effective this July.

Brescia’s Principal Theresa Topic is stepping down from her influential position as the Principal of Canada’s only all-women’s college. In her stead comes Colleen Hanycz from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University.

When asked why she was chosen for the prestigious position, Hanycz said, “From what I’ve been told, I was chosen because I will bring some new energy and some of the value of an external perspective to the school.”

Hanycz will be taking the place of Topic, who is retiring from an eight-year tenure.

“She has certainly left big shoes to fill,” Hanycz said. “I will be looking to take points from her management style, and hope to carry on with the work she has started.”

With a BA, LLB, LLM, PhD, long history of social philanthropy and a background as a civil litigator, Hanycz feels her long, successful career has been leading up to her position at the London based college.

“I like to think I’ve been preparing for this my entire professional life,” she said. “There’s no doubt in my mind that my student and professional background have led me to this point.”
