Windsor police accused of racism following break up of campus party
The Windsor Police Service is being accused of racism after violently intervening in an on-campus party attended primarily by black students from the University of Windsor.

Both the university, its student union, and newly formed student group, Students Against Anti-Black Racism are investigating why more than 25 police officers used force to shut down the “Passa Passa” party held at Windsor’s Basement Pub in January.

Party attendees have come forward citing arrests, beatings and other unnecessary violence on behalf of police officers.

“Many students expressed concern that their arrests were racially motivated,” University of Windsor spokesperson Lori Lewis said.

SAABR was formed soon after the party and now has a membership of over 100 students. The group has already held a demonstration and press conference on campus regarding the January incident.

University president Ross Paul is just starting his investigation, Lewis said.

“It’s a very complicated and complex issue.

“We can’t immediately provide solutions. We have a lot of work to do to find out what happened.”

The Windsor Police Service could not be reached for comment.
