Can I get an ‘amen’ for the new dean?
Huron University College has appointed Reverend Dr. William Danaher Jr. as the new dean of the Faculty of Theology effective July 1, 2008.

The position requires someone who is both ordained in the tradition of the Anglican Church and qualified academically with a Ph.D. in theology.

Huron Principal Dr. Ramona Lumpkin explained there is a very small pool of people who fit the criterion. Huron conducted an international search for the new dean that spanned Canada, the United States and the United Kingdom.

Lumpkin said, “We are delighted to have a scholar and a priest of Dr. Danaher’s qualifications joining our faculty at Huron and providing great leadership in the future.”

He was ordained an Episcopal priest, the American equivalent to an Anglican priest, in the Diocese of Connecticut in 1996. Lumpkin praised Danaher for his strong academic record in teaching and as an established scholar in theology.

The last dean, Reverend Dr. John Chapman, held the position for seven years. In March 2007 he was elected Bishop of Ottawa and left Huron at the end of the academic year.
