Admin ignores students on exams

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Congratulations, Western administration, for once again failing to heed student complaints about the April 30 end to examinations. We’ll be thanking you as we struggle to pack up our belongings while studying for finals.

It’s not as if we should have expected exams to end at any time other than the day our leases expire " to demonstrate such applied learning after previous years’ fiascoes would be uncharacteristic of an institution entirely disconnected from students.

I guess the “best student experience” includes loading a U-Haul while we read our textbooks. Clothes-folding and furniture-moving don’t in any way disturb our concentration.

Maybe we should ask Paul Davenport to move out of Gibbons Lodge on the most important day of his working year " I’m sure he wouldn’t be bothered in the slightest.

Or better yet, maybe Western should end exams on April 29 next year, as we asked them to do last year, so that we can all pack in peace when we finish.

We’ve made it clear in the past how much of a pain this is, and thankfully some of our landlords have accommodated us. In contrast, Western seems incapable or unwilling to do the same.

I’m sure shortening the exam period by one day wouldn’t cause total chaos on campus.
