Re: “Executive members voice strengths, flaws with club system”
Jan. 15, 2009

To the editor:
I am writing in response to the recently printed article about clubs at Western. I was quoted in the article as having voiced my concerns about the locker space, insurance and cost issues in the club. I 100 per cent stand by every word that I said and I do agree that these are big problems within the clubs system.

However, I would like to point out just how much I believe in this club system. I am a member of various clubs on campus and have been involved in the executive team of my club since my first year at Western. We are so lucky to have the system we have, offering clubs for various interests be them cultural, religious, sports related or for leisure. I believe that it is part of what gives Western the ability to say that we provide the best student experience.

I would also like to point out that there have been many problems within the clubs system that have been recently fixed in this academic year. Last year there were some problems with Clubs Week that affected all clubs and led to lower membership almost universally. Since then, Clubs Week has been run more functionally and fairly and I know many clubs that have benefited.

While there are obvious problems that I hope will be solved, Western is lucky to have the clubs system we have and I am a proud member and supporter of it.
