Ping-Pong for cancer awareness

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

To the editor:
In my fourth year at Western, I am continuing to notice the outstanding efforts put forth by student-run organizations for cancer awareness causes. I was specifically impressed by the “What’s Your Story?” campaigns last semester and the annual fraternity sleepover on Concrete Beach.

I make this point after a melancholy break in which I learned my grandfather " at 90 years old " had been diagnosed with prostate cancer and no sooner than I inquired about a male-focused cancer awareness cause, that I had found one, the inaugural Cancer Awareness/Fundraiser Doubles Ping-Pong Tournament on Friday, Jan. 23. It is not only a unique student campaign, but also the first to focus solely on the male-afflicting forms of cancer which one in two men are diagnosed with within their lifetime. Teams can be made up of six to eight people and I signed mine up at caswestern@gmail.com.
