What the truck?

This week Gazette Opinions received a letter asking about Western’s priorities during this time of economic hardship and tight funding. We asked John Doerksen, vice-provost for academic programs and students, if the budget cuts at Western will affect financial aid for students?

“The Operating Budget Update (Jan. 9, 2009) notes that the economic downturn has had a negative impact on the university’s endowments, part of which fund student scholarships, awards and bursaries,” Doerksen said. “Despite the loss of revenue from endowments, however, Western is committed to our long-standing Student Access Guarantee: no qualified student will be prevented from attending Western for lack of access to adequate financial resources. Students can expect continued support through bursaries, need based awards and work study opportunities in the current term and through the next academic year.”
