Re: “Students stand up for bus pass”
March 20, 2009

To the editor:
Frankly I’m tired of Gazette editorials that attack USC President-elect Emily Rowe and all former USC presidential candidates for campaign material left on campus. Is it a problem? It definitely is. Does the issue need to be readdressed in years following to ensure that material is cleaned up promptly and efficiently? Certainly.

However, Mallory Daley’s pinpointing of select individuals for a much broader campus issue is not an appropriate solution. The snowmelt has revealed how truly ignorant some Western students are. Empty Tim’s cups, sandwich wrappers and filth in general litters campus and the surrounding neighbourhoods. It’s time that everyone takes responsibility for their clutter and begins acting like responsible adults.

Stop throwing your shit on the ground. It’s disgusting. Start respecting our campus and take one second from that pressing text message and pick up a piece of garbage. Though you may not look awesome doing so, a combined effort to clean up would certainly be appreciated.

As for future USC elections, a penalty for leftover campaign materials is undoubtedly a suitable resolution.
