Why does Western schedule exams on Sundays?

The Gazette asked John Doerksen, vice-provost academic programs and students, why some students will have to write an exam on a Sunday. He told us that Sundays were opened up as possible days to conduct examinations in order accommodate the large number of program combinations at Western and minimize conflicts between their exams.

“This is a relatively new practice for Western,” Doerksen said. “We have over 1,000 distinct program combinations, increasing chances of exam conflict.”

“It’s a tradeoff " we need all the time we can get to decrease conflicts.”
