Grey Cup, Vanier Cup team up

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

This year, Canadian football fans will have twice the tackles to look forward to on the weekend of Nov. 23, when Canada’s two most important championship football games join forces.

For the first time in Canadian history, the Grey Cup and the Vanier Cup will be played on the same weekend, in hopes that the partnership will generate more interest in Canadian Interuniversity Sport football’s biggest event.

Although the Vanier Cup has seen crowds of over 10,000 in recent years, attendance has been far from the record high of 32, 847 set in 1989, when the event was held at SkyDome in Toronto.

By combining tickets to the 2007 Vanier Cup with Grey Cup tickets, organizers hope to change all that. Both games will be held at Toronto’s Rogers Centre.

Tickets are $30 and, currently, there is availability in the 500 level only. Tickets are available through TicketMaster.
