'Stangs look to win at home and on the road

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

With Homecoming just around the corner, a number of Mustangs teams will be in action this weekend.

After a strong showing at the McGill Open, the men’s and women’s cross-country team will be hoping to improve this weekend at the team’s home meet, the 32nd annual Western Invitational at the Thames Valley Golf Course.

Coming off strong showings last weekend, both the men’s and women’s soccer teams will be hosting the Guelph Gryphons on Sunday.

On the men’s side, goalkeeper Haidar Al-Shaibani will be looking to build on his nearly flawless season, having allowed only one goal in the team’s first five games.

The women aim to climb up the Ontario University Athletics west standings, as their 2-3-1 record has them sitting in fourth place.

On the road, the football team struggles to keep its playoff aspirations alive, as it takes on the Guelph Gryphons. Running back Randy McAuley needs only 12 rushing yards to become Western’s all-time leading rusher.
