ROW, ROW, ROW YOUR BOAT, GENTLY DOWN FANSHAWE LAKE. Western's rowing teams gave the competition a paddlin' at this past weekend's OUA championships. The men's heavyweight eights won gold and the women's eights grabbed a silver medal.

Every men’s boat in competition won a medal, as the Western Mustangs won their third consecutive Ontario University Athletics banner at the OUA Championships on Oct. 27.

Tim Colson won the lightweight singles race, while the men’s heavyweight eights won gold as it continued its domination this season.

Meanwhile, the women’s squad won the heavyweight women’s eights race to pull in a silver medal.

“It’s three in a row for our men, I’m very pleased with our results,” Volker Nolte, head coach of the men’s program said.

Nolte said he was particularly impressed with Colson’s effort despite extremely windy conditions.

Colson won the gold medal in the men’s lightweight singles at the OUA championships for the third straight year.

“He acted very professionally in very difficult conditions,” Nolte said. “He had a great individual performance on a team with great athletes. He won the only single gold medal for us and he really stands out for us.”
