After finishing the regular season with a 4-5 record, Western’s men’s lacrosse team couldn’t advance past the first round of the playoffs, losing to Bishop’s University.

Despite finishing 4-6, the Mustangs’ achievements on the field did not go unnoticed, as they were ranked number three nationally by the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association.

The CUFLA rankings take a number of factors into account, including the difficulty of a team’s schedule and which teams it beats throughout the year. Western was the only CUFLA team to defeat the number one ranked Brock Badgers this season, contributing to its high ranking.

Individually, defensive captain Dan Strickland was named a first team all-Canadian defenceman while rookie attack Kevin Brownell was named a second team all-Canadian attackman.

Brownell, a first-year kinesiology student, finished fifth in scoring with 37 points. He tallied 16 goals and 21 assists.

Strickland had previously been named a second team all-Canadian in 2005, but did not capture any honours last year as he was hampered with a knee injury.
