"HANDLES" ON PAR WITH A RUBBERMAID TUF-NECK GARBAGE CONTAINER. The women's hoopsters are just one of several teams that will be looking to pick up steam at the end of the holiday season and into January in Ontario University Athletics competition.

While most students enjoy a relaxing holiday of sleeping in and homemade meals, Western athletes will be back in competition.

The women’s volleyball team will travel to Calgary Dec. 28 for a team training camp and exhibition games.

The team is coming off of an eight-game win streak going into the holiday break, and the training camp is sure to keep the players on their toes going into the New Year.

The squad’s season will officially start up again Jan. 11 at Queen’s University, followed by a game against Royal Military College Jan. 12.

The men’s basketball team will also work on its skills Dec. 28, in a memorial tournament at Ryerson University.

The ’Stangs will need to keep in shape to improve their season record in hopes of an Ontario University Athletics playoff run.

The men’s volleyballers will arrive back shortly before classes commence to take part in an exhibition tournament at the York Invitational on Jan. 4.

The team sits fifth in the OUA, tied with Queen’s and the York Lions with 12 points.

On Saturday Jan. 5, three Mustangs teams get back into regular season action against the Brock Badgers.

The women’s and men’s basketball teams will play Brock in Alumni Hall at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.

The women’s hockey squad will also face a contest against Brock in St. Catharines at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Western’s women’s puck has split its games against Brock this season, winning 2-1 Nov. 3 and losing 2-1 Nov. 18.

The women will continue their weekend road trip on Sunday with a visit to Windsor, where they will face the Lancers at 4 p.m.
