Three b-ball players charged with assault

Atlantic University Sports’ top-seed, the St. Francis Xavier X-Men (17-3), will head into the AUS men’s basketball championship this weekend short one all-star guard and two rookie guards.

Tyler Richards and Eamon Morrissy, both from Halifax, and William Donkoh from Nepean, Ontario, have been charged with assault causing bodily harm after a man was hospitalized following an incident in Antigonish on Feb. 21. The three players will plead their case in court on May 4.

Richards is in his last eligible year and holds the title of No. 2 in X-Men career scoring. Richards averaged nearly 20 points per game in the conference this season, while Donkoh averaged 3.6 points per game and Morrissy averaged 1.8.

Athletic director Leo MacPhearson and head coach Steve Konchalski have decided that the three players will not be suspended, but will sit out of the AUS championship this weekend.

“It’s not a suspension nor is it a sign that we necessarily feel they are guilty of the charges,” MacPhearson said, as published by the The Chronicle Herald.

“We’ll take the appropriate action based on the outcome of our own internal disciplinary investigation, which is ongoing.”
