Gus Macker player jumps high for a slam dunk

Clyde Adkin, the organizer of the popular Gus Macker three-on-three basketball tournament, has cancelled this year’s event. Declining interest as well as personal reasons were cited as the main factors in Adkin’s decision to end his involvement with the annual event.

During the past several Gus Macker tournaments attendance has been lacking compared to previous years. Fewer teams have signed up although spectator turn out has remained impressive. A possible reason for this decline may be concerns over violence that has occurred at recent tournaments.

Cancelling the event might have negative effects on local businesses, which bring in large profits from the additional parking, lodging and food and beverages attendees purchase.

The official Gus Macker website lists the London tourney as running from May 23 to 24, but if another organizer doesn’t pick up the pieces this annual London tradition could be over for good.
