It was a successful weekend for Mustang Athletics. Some teams took to the road and some remained on campus, but they all found their way into the win column.

Western’s dominant squash squads came through again, with both the men and the women bringing home top honours from McMaster University Saturday.

The top-seeded men’s squash team captured its 24th straight Ontario University Athletics title by defeating the third-seeded Toronto Varsity Blues 5-1 in the championship match.

As for the women’s squash team, the second-seeded Mustangs won their second consecutive title, upsetting the top-ranked McGill Martlets 5-1.

The women’s basketball team (15-5) played its final home game this season, defeating the Waterloo Warriors 70-65 at Alumni Hall last Wednesday. Lauren Parkes led Western’s offence with 17 points while forward Bess Lennox chipped in with eight points and 12 boards. Western out-rebounded Waterloo 40-29.

The men’s basketball team (10-8) also defeated Waterloo at home last Wednesday, 65-56. The win qualified the Mustangs for the postseason for the first time in four years. Western was led by guard Jason Milliquet and forward Adam Ruickbie, who scored 14 and 12 points, respectively.

The women’s hockey team (9-9-1-1) won its fifth straight game Saturday in Windsor, topping the Lancers 3-1. Winger Roberta Martin scored twice for Western. Forward Sara Lynch rounded out scoring for the Mustangs.

Before defeating the Lakehead Thunderwolves Saturday, the women’s volleyball team (18-1) took to the road, defeating the Windsor Lancers 3-1 last Wednesday. After losing the opening set 25-23, the Mustangs won three straight sets (25-14, 25-22, 25-19). Melissa Mann, Erin Miller and Jacqueline Robinson led the Mustangs with nine kills each.
